Ixhuatlán del Café

This small town of Ixhuatlán del Café is a pure Mecca of Mexican Coffee, and probably the largest single coffee producing areas in the state of Veracruz. Ixhuatlán is a popular name throughout the entire country of Mexico and is also of Nahuatl (Aztec) origin. It means “Place of Corn Husks”. Beautiful mountain ranges throughout this region tower upwards of 1700 m above sea level. But just below that at a level of approximately 1400 m is where you will find some of the finest quality coffees cultivated anywhere in the world. These farms lie on high plateaus of rolling hills and cultivated under the beautiful shade of Chalahuite trees. The main farmer with whom we have partnered with now for several years is also a very talented young farmer. Donizetti worked in the US for many years saving his money so that one day he could return and help his aging dad restore a coffee farm that had almost fallen into complete ruin for lack of sufficient work and funds to keep it up and going. However, Doni has done more than recover. He has become one of the primary voices in the region concerning the production of “Specialty Grade” coffees and differentiated processing methods. We are so proud to represent Donizetti, his family, his workers, and his community.
